Sarah Green reports HS2 to the United Nations

UN Water Conference

The United Nations - Water Conference was held 22 to 24 March 2023. Sarah Green Hillingdon Green Party coordinator was honoured to give oral evidence to a side event Global Women and the Facets of Water.

A global vision of water protection and sustainable water management is ratified by UK Government under the UN 2030 Agenda and the global Sustainable Development Goals agreed.

Goal 6 is clean water and good sanitation for all. Sarah was able to report that instead of improving water quality and water protection a case study of the UK Gov high speed rail 2 project is providing misleading information which is included in the UK sustainable development targets.

Water pollution in both surface waters and groundwater is rising in the UK.

In fact the rivers in England are some of the most polluted in the world with both growing levels of trade effluent, micro plastics and sewage. England is the only country in the world where the entire water supply system is fully privatised putting private profits above people and environment.

Mid way through the decade of action for water, the good news is that millions of people in England are waking up to the water pollution around them and the risks to tap water quality and they are now speaking out in larger and larger numbers.

The Green Party are all calling out for the truth to be told so that vital urgent action can be taken to protect our aquifers and drinking water sources.

This is a watershed moment.
